Cost-effective cryogenic valves from KV Process Controls A new cryogenic solenoid valve from KV Process Controls has been chosen to control the flow of Liquid Nitrogen that will be used as a special effect for an unusual stunt show at the new Disney Studios attraction in Disneyland Paris. The valve, from KVPC's Cryogenic valve range, was supplied vacuum jacketed as this provides the most efficient insulated piping solution for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective transfer of cryogenic liquids from storage tanks to the point-of-use within a process. As well as Liquid Nitrogen the Cryogenic valves can be used with oxygen, argon and carbon dioxide down to -196°C. The problem with transferring cryogenic liquids is that product tends to be lost due to heat transfer via convection, conduction, or radiation. The seal provided by the vacuum jacket prevents this heat transfer and minimises the escape of cryogenic liquid. In proven tests, losses from vacuum jacketed systems can be reduced to 1 per cent of that for non-insulated pipe and 5 per cent of that for foam insulated pipe. The Cryogenic range of valves from KV Process Controls is available in sizes from DN 5mm to DN 50mm with screwed or flanged connections. Made of bronze, brass or stainless steel, with seal materials to suit the media, the valves will operate at pressures from 0 to 230 bar and can handle fluid temperatures from +90ºC to -196ºC. Direct acting, coupled and servo versions are available, with proximity sensors and EXD coils as optional extras.
